Mary Eileen McDonnell (born April 28 1952) is an American film stage and television actor. She received the Academy Award nomination for her part as Stands With A Fist in Dances with Wolves and she is well-known for her performance as President Laura Roslin in Battlestar Galactica which was the president's wife on Independence Day and for her prominent part in Donnie Darko as the titular protagonist's mother.
